Four Roses Charity Cocktail Challenge

If you ever doubted the power of whiskey…well, you’re wrong. But if you ever did fall into such folly, the Four Roses Charity Cocktail Challenge should snap you back to your senses.

Four Roses is stopping in ten different cities, challenging bartenders to craft original cocktails with their Yellow Label Bourbon. After each event, Four Roses is donating to The Folded Flag Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants to military families. As for the winning bartenders, they’ll go on to compete at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.

The tour is coming to a close soon, and I was delighted to attend the Los Angeles chapter, held at Scopa Italian Roots in Venice.

Each competitor had wildly different offerings. From the Stars and Stripes, featuring watermelon and starfruit, to the Autumn Leaf, with apple brandy and sherry, it was refreshing to be reminded that bourbon knows no bounds or seasons.

The bartenders explained their inspiration for each drink, including some touching stories about their personal connections to friends and family who have served in the military.
